Lila's first cousin, Hazel Dollie Halsey, was born last month! Lila's not the only grandchild anymore (at least on Byron's side). I'm so excited to be an aunt and I can't wait to meet her sometime soon. Isn't she a beauty?

Since Byron gave me a sewing machine for my birthday last October, I've been trying to teach myself to do some little projects. I decided to make a few things for little Hazel and I was pretty pleased with the results:

I added a little jean patch to the bib and embroidered an "H" for Hazel (or Halsey I guess). I also added a decorative ribbon. The back of the bib is terry cloth (from a dish towel I bought at Ikea) and it has a velcro closure.

I've made these little shoes before (three pair for Lila-two pairs never fit her-and a pair for a friend's baby shower), but I think these are definitely the cutest ones yet. I added a lot more detail with the ribbon on the front and back and used two materials instead of one. The jean is actually from an old pair of pants I don't use anymore. I was pretty proud of my recycling skills. Green baby shoes!

Underneath the shoes is a super simple burp rag I made by sewing ribbon and quilt binding onto a cloth diaper.

Here's a close-up of the onesie. I drew these little birdie pieces and made my own applique. The eye is a little black button.

I found instructions online for making this cute bow clip out of ribbon. It turned out so well that I made a light pink one for Lila to wear on Easter.

I tried the outfit on this cute little model. She wasn't the most cooperative subject, so this crazy eye shot is the best one I got.

My next project was a present for my sister. I forgot to take a picture before I gave it to her, but I designed a cute bow applique and put it on a white shirt. I'm also working on a matching purse right now and I'll remember to take pictures before I send it to her. If you have any other ideas for simple sewing projects, let me know...I'd love to try something new!

That is so cute! I LOVE the onesie. One of my favorite baby shower gifts was from a co-worker who made a couple onesies and little shoes for Hallie. I was sad when she grew out of them.
Wow! You are so good at making things. Very cute and useful too. I wish I could sew! I might be able to make the hair ribbon, but that's about it (and I would have to have detailed instructions too.) :)
I am a little irratated at how crafty you are. And how good you are at it! and that you have time to do it. and you make it look so easy.
