Yosemite Trip

Yes...I am FINALLY posting! (That is, with a little help from my hubby who put all the pictures on the post while I was gone at a fireside and we all know getting the pictures up is the hardest part)

Back in the middle of June, went on a trip to Yosemite with my parents and my sister Lindsay, who came into town from Virginia Beach. Unfortunately, her husband Matt couldn't make it and Kelsey was working. The weather was perfect and Lila was an angel, even on the 5 hr. drive there and back. We stayed in a spacious cabin next to the Merced river and not far from the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias. A few highlights of our trip include:

1. Cleaning the cabin furiously when we arrived. We discovered that it was a "pet friendly" cabin, which sounds like a good thing to animal lovers like us, but was actually a curse for Byron who has bad allergies to animal dander. Poor guy! Luckily my dad is an awesome vacuumer and cleaned the place right up.

2. Hiking to Chilnualna Falls, only about 15 minutes from our cabin. It was beautiful, but the water was FREEZING. Only our manly men were brave enough to swim in the treacherous waters and I think they might have suffered from some mild hypothermia because of their courage. Byron loves announcing to everyone that he is an official member of the Polar Bear Club (P.B.C.). He got up early each morning to take a dip in the icy, two-foot deep, creek.
3. Lila enjoyed finding pine cones, like the small one pictured here. We learned that they're called "widow-makers"... I wonder why? Lila liked that they were just her size.
4. Aunt Lindsay and Lila got to bond. She has always been AMAZING with kids and Lila took to her immediately. Lindsay took care of her basically the whole time and was her playmate the whole ride home in the back of my parent's mini-van. Here they are on the Sugar Pine Railroad.
5. Lila spent her days in this handy dandy backpack that my friend Bobbi was kind enough to let us borrow. This thing is awesome! I don't know what we would have done without it. And as you can tell by her smile, Lila liked it too.
6. We walked around in the Mariposa Grove and saw some super big trees like this one. A trek that seemed like it shouldn't have taken very long turned into hours as we noticed that mile markers pointing to sites 0.3 miles ahead seemed to have a funny way of sending us on 2 mile long hikes each time.
7. We had a fabulous picnic in the best spot in the park: a gorgeous meadow next to a lake surrounded by mountains and waterfalls. Ok...so that describes basically every part of Yosemite, but it really was a beautiful meadow.
8. We enjoyed dozens of vistas just as gorgeous as this one.
9. We hung around the cabin just a little bit when we needed to relax.
10. Lila loved the swing set in front of our cabin. She LOVES swings. I wish we could get one!
11. We visited the swinging bridge where Lila found a cool stick.

12. We visited Glacier Point, a spot that offers some of the best views of the valley and its many waterfalls. Behind us you can see Half Dome, Nevada Falls, and another falls I can't remember the name of. We looked through some binoculars and it was really fun to see all the people hanging out by those falls and at the top of Half Dome. My dad hiked it once but my height phobia will definitely prevent me from ever hiking up anything that looks like that...EVER. We also hiked close to a lot of falls, but I won't put those pictures up because there are already a lot on here.
We had such a fun time and want to thank my parents and Lindsay for making the trip so great. Vacations are the best!
